Dr. L. Brent Mitchell was elected as vice-president of the Canadian Heart Rhythm Society (CHRS) last October. He will become president of this professional organization of Canada’s heart rhythm specialist physicians and allied health professionals in October 2014.
CHRS is a coalition of arrhythmia practitioners including physicians and allied health professionals. It works through research and education programs in the field of cardiac electrophysiology. Dr. Mitchell was the inaugural director of the Libin Institute.
Dr. Mitchell attended the University of Calgary and obtained degrees in Biochemistry and medicine. After a Fellowship in Clinical Cardiology at Dalhousie University in Halifax, he undertook a Fellowship in Research Cardiology at Stanford University Medical Centre, California. Dr. Mitchell’s clinical practice and research interests are in the area of clinical cardiac electrophysiology, particularly in the clinical science of tachyarrhythmias.
