On November 23, Dr. Merril Knudtson was inducted at the Order of Canada investiture ceremony as one of 44 recipients of this prestigious honour. His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, presided over the ceremony at Rideau Hall.

The official citation of his Order of Canada membership reads:

“Merril Knudtson has made outstanding contributions to the field of interventional cardiology. A professor of medicine and a cardiologist, he pioneered the use of angioplasty for treatment of heart attacks in Canada. He has also been instrumental in the conceptualization and implementation of APPROACH, a registry that monitors and tracks the long-term health outcomes of cardiac patients. Adopted throughout the country, the registry has significantly improved response times for heart attack treatment and continues to promote accountability in the use of new technology and therapies.”
