Calgary is a leader in interventional cardiology, electrophysiology and surgical approaches to heart failure. Due to the pioneering work of cardiologists in our city, coupled with excellent post-procedure care, Calgary has the lowest death rate following a heart attack for the past decade in Canada.
Funds raised from the Calgary Health Trust‘s Foothills Cabaret will go to support the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta in development of a Cardiac Hybrid Operating Room (OR) at Foothills Medical Centre (FMC). Development of the Cardiac Hybrid OR is an important step in meeting the cardiac care needs of Southern Alberta, and in continuing to attract and retain the best and brightest professionals to FMC.
It is estimated that one in two people in Southern Alberta will require some sort of cardiac care and/or cardiac diagnostic imaging in their lifetime. Many complex heart conditions require multiple interventions or surgeries delivered by a wide array of specialists. The new OR will enable clinicians to work together in treating complex heart conditions, lessening the number of procedures each patient requires. The availability of state-of-the-art technology allows for less invasive procedures and shortens recovery time, returning patients to their lives and families as quickly as possible.
The Foothills Medical Centre Cabaret is an evening to celebrate ongoing support of FMC and to raise funds to pave the way for excellence in our province.
