Have a heart, take part in these Autumn Runs in Calgary

Run-and-walk events are a dime a dozen in the spring and summer as you can pretty much find a cause almost every weekend to lace up those trainers for. But once fall rolls around and the chill sets in, there are markedly fewer options. If you’re looking for some more races to support cardiovascular wellness and health care, here are two great events to check out in Calgary this fall.

Calgary Heartbeat Run
Saturday, September 22, 2012
Chaparral Valley
What started out as an event in Edmonton has now grown to include Calgary and Saskatoon to further promote heart health and prevention of heart disease. There will be a 1 km Fun Run, 5 km Walk/Run and 10 km Run that are all chip-timed. It’s in support of the Calgary Health Trust and the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta.

*Last day for race entry: Sept. 21, 2012
3rd Annual Heart Beats Family Fun Run
Saturday, October 13th, 2012
Eau Claire Market/Bow River
This event is hosted by The Heart Beats Children Society of Calgary in support of children with heart disease. The Society offers resources, support and financial aid to children and families who are coping with congenital heart disease. Last year’s event drew more than 300 runners. Do either a 10 km run, 5 km run or 1 km children’s race. Prizes and medals will be given out in various categories.

*Last day for registration: Oct. 10, 2012
