Recruitment of outstanding clinicians for advanced training in cardiovascular medicine is a vital aspect of the Libin Institute’s mission. The Arthur J.E. Child Fellowship was established to address this important objective and is supported by a generous gift from the Arthur J.E. Child Foundation.
The Fellowships honour the memory of an innovative businessman and a great philanthropist. They will be awarded on an annual basis to outstanding physicians who wish to pursue advanced training in cardiovascular medicine. The awards support local candidates who plan to undertake Fellowships at high-level international centres, and those to train locally at the University of Calgary.
The first Fellowships were awarded in the spring for the 2012-13 academic year to:
Dr. Stephanie Au who has recently completed her core cardiology training at the University of Calgary this June. She will be embarking on a one-year Fellowship in Cardiac Prevention and Rehabilitation under the direction of Dr. James Stone at the Cardiac Wellness Institute of Calgary.
Dr. Nakul Sharma who is undertaking a one-year Fellowship in Advanced Heart Failure under the supervision of Dr. Jonathan Howlett. He comes to Calgary from the University of Alberta.
