CIHR to fund Tyberg research

The Honourable Leona Algukkaq, Federal Minister of Health announced funding for new research on physical activity and childhood obesity on November 15, 2010.  The Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta‘s Dr. John Tyberg, Professor in the Departments of Cardiac Sciences as well as Physiology & Pharmacology, leads one of only nine projects that made the cut.

The multi-year funding will allow Dr. John Tyberg to study the importance of arterial reservoir in the distribution of blood to vital organs in the body and how exercise affects the volume of this reservoir.  Demonstrating how this reservoir works might persuade people to exercise more and lead to the development of new drugs.
