CJC May 2010 – SIX Libin publications!

This statistic hasn’t been tracked in the past, but perhaps we’ll start now. Number of publications authored by Libin Institute members in a single issue of a major peer-reviewed journal. For the May 2010 edition of the Canadian Journal of Cardiology that number was six!

National Nurses Week – Cardiac Style!

Knudtson admitted into Order of the University of Calgary

A pioneer of Interventional Cardiology in Canada, the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta‘s Dr. Merril Knudtson, Professor of Cardiac Science and Medicine, was admitted into the Order of the University of Calgary (OTUC) at convocation on May 13, 2010.

Referring to the impact pioneering work in Interventional Cardiology has had over the last three decades, a UCalgary media story stated the following:

It could be argued that Knudtson’s work has directly or indirectly added millions of years of life to the Canadian population.

Congratulations Dr. Knudtson!

The OTUC was developed in 1994 as a result of a suggestion which came forward from the University of Calgary Senate. It honors worthy recipients who have a record of exemplary and distinguished service to the University.

TalkHealth – How MRI Could Transform Cardiology

Internationally renowned cardiologist, Dr. Matthias Friedrich, Director of the Stephenson CMR Centre at the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta, delivered the Calgary Health Trust’s TalkHealth lecture on May 5, 2010. Speaking to the topic, Seeing the Heart Without Touching the Patient – How MRI Could Transform Cardiology, Dr. Friedrich articulated how cardiac imaging has evolved, what is now possible and what the future might hold.

TalkHealth is a donor appreciation event that allows the Calgary Health Trust the opportunity to thank its valued donors for their generosity over the past year. This speaker series is generally offered in the Spring and Fall, and gives donors the opportunity to enjoy informative presentations by doctors and health care professionals from different areas of health care.
